Spear shaped, with a distinct flattened head, and a tubular stem that is covered in short hairs which are visible with a hand loupe, dark brown to black, to about 80 mm high

Notes

Although resembling earth tongues in the Geoglossum genus, T. hirsutum is distinguished by the hairy stem.
